Making something so small may seem difficult, but it really is not. Sure, you can buy baby headband anywhere. However, making them yourself is fun and you know exactly what you are putting on your baby’s head.
First, you will need to purchase some stretchable ribbon and a glue gun if you do not already have one. The amount you will need will depend on how many headband you plan to make. You also need regular ribbon to add a beautiful hair bow to the headband. You also need to measure the circumference of your baby’s head. It is best to use the ribbon itself for the measurement, that way you will know that you are not getting it too tight or too loose. Put your finger between your baby’s head and the ribbon and pinch where it comes together. Remove the ribbon and cut the excess ribbon off.
Take 4 inches of ribbon and fold it. Hold it at the base with your fingers firmly. Do not cut yet. You now have the first loop of your bow. Repeat this 4-5 more times directly over the first loop. Remember to grip firmly at the base as you reposition your fingers with each loop. You should have 4-5 loops with the ribbon still attached to the spool. Without releasing your loops, cut the ribbon off the spool. You can also use to colors of ribbon for this process. You would only make 2-3 loops with one color and the remaining loops with the other color.
Reposition your fingers to the middle of the loops. Sew the ribbon together in the middle. You are not done yet! It is now time to use the glue gun. Take a small piece of ribbon about 1 to 1 1/2 inches and wrap it around the center of the bow. Using a glue gun put a small dab of hot glue where the small piece of ribbon overlaps. Now sew the bow on to the headband from the inside. Be careful not to bring your stitches through to the front. This way, they remain hidden.
You can also use this method of making hair bows for those crocheted or knitted flower hats you have for your baby.
