Getting away these days has become incredibly difficult, but we could all certainly use some time away from the everyday stresses of life. Between the cost of gas and the economic status of most American homeowners it difficult to conceive being able to take a fancy vacation with the family this year. Well does it have to be Jamaica or Mexico in order to have fun? No, it does not. You can take an American vacation; get cheap airfare and cheap travel, all while having a great time.

1. Check for online deals. Often you will find that the online companies have found ways to offer inexpensive travel by simply eliminating the travel agency and picking up deals with hotels and airlines all over the world. These hotels let the online companies know when they have rooms to fill and offer them at great discounts since this is a much better option then a half empty hotel. The airlines do the same with unfilled seats saving people possibly hundreds of dollars on good seats.

2. Go to old fashioned travel agencies and ask what kinds of deals they are offering. Most of the time you already have an idea of where you want to stay so have the agent call the hotel personally and work out a deal for you. They can often negotiate great rooms and substansial discounts on your behalf. Next she can keep an eye on the airfare and much like a stock broker, buy low on your behalf. These agencies are desperate for your business and all you need to do is ask.

3. Check your local newspapers especially on Sundays. Sometimes people purchase vacation packages and then are unable to go. Since vacations are often non-refundable they will try to sell them at reduced costs just so that they can get some off this money back.

Even if you just take a weekend out in to the country and go camping try to take some time away. It can be very hard to be effective when you are truly burned out and exhausted.
